Chapter 3

Later, after Elisabeth had eaten dinner with her mother, they heard something.  It was Elisabeth's father, opening the kitchen door.  "Hi, Dad!"  Elisabeth ran to her father.  "Hey, sweetie," Dad replied.  "Frank, honey, sit down and eat.  Dinner is waiting for you."  Mom said.  Dad looked a little confused, because he said, "Sorry, Abby, sweetie, I ate dinner at a restaurant today."  Mom stared at Dad.   She looked a little hurt and surprised, and she said, "Oh, uh, that's okay, um, honey.  Uh, no problem!  It's, urm, okay!"  Dad looked as if he wished he had never said that he ate dinner at a restaurant.  "May I go upstairs, Daddy?"  asked Elisabeth, quietly.  "Alright, sweetie, sure!"  Dad replied.  "Thanks,"  Elisabeth ran upstairs to her bedroom again.  She looked out the window into the hard, pouring rain.  She couldn't see much of anything.  Suddenly, she saw something moving down the sidewalk past her house.  There, without a raincoat, was Julia!  She had her head bent down, trying to avoid the wind and rain as she walked.  Her black hair was soaking wet, her skin was cold and wet, and she was, crying, thought Elisabeth.  Elisabeth jerked out of her daydreaming, opened the deck door, ran outside, and gave Julia Brooke a small raincoat, one of Elisabeth's old ones.  The girl's eyes met briefly, as if Julia's eyes were trying to say a soft thank you.  Julia looked at her raincoat as soon as the raincoat flipped onto her shoulders, and without looking behind or saying good-bye, she ran quickly.  Elisabeth looked piteously after her.  I feel so sorry for her, thought Elisabeth, She's fatherless, motherless, she has no brothers or sisters, she has to live with her aunt, and oh!  she didn't have a raincoat!  Elisabeth ran back into the house, exhausted from the rain and cold and fell on her bed.  Before she closed her eyes and went to sleep, she thought she would never, ever hold a grudge against Julia again.

Sorry, no writer's corner today!  My fingers are too tired!

Chapter 2

Elisabeth entered her house quietly.  "Hey, honey, I forgot your class was over!" Mom said, "I was going to go pick you up!".  Elisabeth smiled.  "That's okay, Mom.  I walked home with Marie." "Okay." Mom grinned.  "Dinner's ready,"  They both walked into the dining room.  Elisabeth pulled a chair out for her mom and herself.  They both ate dinner.  Skits woke up and ran down from upstairs.  He smelled the food curiously and jumped into Elisabeth's lap.  "Oh, Skits!" exclaimed Elisabeth.  She hugged him and held him tight.  "Elisabeth," her mom gave her a knowing look but told her to put Skits back down on the ground. "May I go up to my room now, Mom?" asked Elisabeth.  "Of course, honey!  Anything you want to do right now is fine with me!" Mom assured her.  Elisabeth nodded and ran upstairs to her room.  She took down her long, auburn hair and brushed and combed it.  Her hair was straight, but somewhat wavy too.  She looked at herself in the mirror and smiled at herself.  She saw the pink, rosy cheeks and light-green eyes, but then she saw her blue braces on her teeth.  Oh no.  The dreaded, blue braces that had come from the dentist's office last year.  She wanted to take them off again like she had 11 months ago.  But she remembered how her teeth went crooked, towards each other again.  She sighed.  "I wish my teeth were so perfectly straight and so pearly white as Marie's!" cried Elisabeth.  She closed her door and sobbed on her bed.  Outside, the sky clouded up with dark clouds and drearily started to rain.

                                                               ❤❤❤
Just before 8:00 p.m., Elisabeth decided to go downstairs to see what Mom was up to.  She quietly slipped downstairs, watching cautiously around herself.  There, in the rocking chair, was her mother, sleeping.  Elisabeth ran over to her mother and wondered why she was sleeping.  She should be cooking dinner right now, thought Elisabeth.  Elisabeth shook her mother by the shoulders. "Mom, wake up!  You're supposed to be making dinner!  I'm hungry!  Wake up!"  Her mother did not stir at all in her sleep or anything.  "Oh no!"  cried Elisabeth, "I hope she's not........dead!  And I went up to my room to cry over my braces!  Oh dear!"  She pounded on her mother's shoulders one more time.  Elisabeth gave up all hope, and decided her mother was gone.  Suddenly, she saw something flash or blink.  She turned towards her mother.  Her mother opened her eyes.  "Oh, what's wrong, honey?"  Elisabeth told her the story.  Afterwards, she hugged her mother and cried hard.

Chapter 1:

Elisabeth Rose woke up early that morning.  She felt something cold on her cheek.  Skits, her puppy, was sleeping, and had his nose on her cheek.  Skits was the birthday present for Elisabeth when she was 11 years old.  He was a golden lab, and his coat was as shiny as the sun.  Elisabeth smiled at Skits.  She remembered she had ballet class at Isles Ballet School today.  She softly pushed Skits onto her pillow, put on her maroon-colored leotard, pink tights, and ballet shoes.  She ran downstairs and found her mother cooking breakfast.  "Good morning, Mom," said Elisabeth, smiling.  "Well, hello Elisabeth!  I didn't expect to see you up this early,'' her mother smiled back.  "What are you cooking?" asked Elisabeth, smelling the aroma of fried potatoes.  "Oh, fried potatoes, scrambled tofu, steamed broccoli, and your favorite!'' Her mother said the last word with excitement in her soft voice.  "I know!" shouted Elisabeth, "Macaroni and cheese!".  Her mother pulled out a chair for her.  "Here, sweetie, sit down, breakfast's almost ready."  "Okay," Elisabeth grinned.  Her mother set a plate of tofu, broccoli, potatoes, and mac and cheese on the table in front of Elisabeth.  "Thanks, Mom!" Elisabeth thanked her mother.  "No problem, sweetie!  Aren't you glad it's summer?" Mom changed the subject.  "Oh, yes! I'm so very glad!  I just love summer!" exclaimed Elisabeth, the last sentence being very enthusiastic.  "Well, I thought so!  Now get your clothes on; you can't walk around town with a leotard and tights only!" Mom said, playfully.  They both laughed at her remark.  Elisabeth flipped on a hot pink tie-dye t-shirt on and light pink shorts.  "Bye, Mom!" called Elisabeth to her mom, "Bye, Skits!  I suppose you can't hear me though!" giggled Elisabeth.  "Bye, honey!" Mom hugged Elisabeth right before she ran off to ballet. She checked her watch. 8:30 a.m., she thought, I better hurry, I don't want to be late for class, because class is at 9:00 a.m.  Elisabeth put some speed into her running.  She huffed and puffed at each step she made in her running.  She was glad she wasn't her father, who had to get up at 6:00 a.m. and had to get to work at 6:45 a.m. Suddenly, she felt something tickling her neck.  What could it be?  She hoped it wasn't the neighbor boy, who liked to bully the girls.  She felt the thing that was tickling her.  A long lock of her auburn hair.  "Oh no!'' she cried.  She forgot to put her hair in a bun!   How could she forget?  Oh, well, she thought, I'll put it up when I get there.  She arrived at the ballet school at 8:50 a.m.  "Good," she sighed a sigh of relief as she entered the tall, brick building.  "I can put my hair in a bun now," "Hey, Lizzy!" a voice called out of nowhere.  Elisabeth looked around.  It was Marie Antoinette, one of her friends.  "Hey, Marie!"  Elisabeth called back.  She saw Marie coming out of one of the long halls in the ballet school.

"Want to practice our releves?"
"Nah, not today."
"How about pirouettes?"
"Okay."

Marie and Elisabeth did a plie, which is a bending motion of the knees in ballet, stood on their tippey-toes and spun around at the same time.  Elisabeth fell over onto the floor, though.

"Are you okay?" asked Marie, very concerned.
"Yeah, I think so," responded Elisabeth, rubbing her back in pain.
"Are you sure?" pressed Marie, still not quite sure if Elisabeth was "okay".
"I said I am," Elisabeth's eyes darted up to Marie's.
"Oh, okay."  Marie half-smiled.
"Hello, girls," a voice from the hall said.  A woman in a sweeping red dress walked toward them.  It was Mrs. Isles.  "Hello, Mrs. Isles," the girls said in unison.  Mrs. Isles looked at her watch.  It must've said 9:00 a.m. because she said, "Let's start class, girls".  The girls followed Mrs. Isles into the large classroom.  Marie shook a piece of dangling blonde hair out of her eyes.  Elisabeth giggled.
Suddenly, they heard some thumping sound.  Elisabeth and Marie froze in their steps.  A girl with black hair ran in.  Her sharp eyes scanned everything.  She stared at Mrs. Isles.  "Hello, are you joining our class today?" Mrs. Isles smiled.  The girl smirked and said sharply, "I registered for this class. Isn't this class Level 3x?" Mrs. Isles was surprised at this girl's disrespect. "Why, yes, I'm the only one who teaches Level 3x, and didn't you see the sign on the door to this room?   It says Level 3x, and also,'' Mrs Isles continued, "No running in the classrooms, unless directed to do so. And what is your name?" "Julia," the girl glared at Elisabeth and Marie.  "Julia," Mrs. Isles said, briskly, "Whenever I am talking you are to look at me.  Understand?" Julia frowned, "Okay," "And what is your full name?"  "Julia Brooke," Julia smirked again. "Is that all?  Don't you have a last name?" "Well," Julia drawled, "My full name is Julia Brooke Carter.  I'm an orphan, so I don't remember well."
"I didn't need to know if you were an orphan," smiled Mrs. Isles. "And how old are you?" "11 and a half." was the sharp response.  "Ok, Julia, go to the barre with Elisabeth and Marie and we'll do tendues."

Later, as Elisabeth was walking home with Marie, she said, "Julia sure isn't nice," Marie half-smiled, "You don't know that yet.  She may just be very shy," Elisabeth shook her head.  "I don't think so.  I've never heard of anybody who is disrespectful and shy at the same time." Marie broke her walking into fast running steps across the sidewalk as they approached her house.  "Well, I'll see you tomorrow, Elisabeth," she called.  Elisabeth cocked her head slightly to the side.  "Ok.  See you tomorr---" but Marie had already run into her house.  Elisabeth thought quietly and deeply, Maybe Marie thinks Julia is nice, but I sure don't.  She broke off the thought as she ran into her cool, cozy house.  All the negative thoughts drifted away as good thoughts floated in.

Writer's corner:  I hope you enjoyed that chapter!  It took about 30 min. to write all of it!  XD.  And I had to think up interesting things, too.  Take note: This is a fictional story, which means it is not true.

Thanks for watching reading!
